For the third year, the sun shone on our apple press day in Hythe High Street. We had a great time, meeting many familiar and new people, with lots bringing apples and mucking in with creating the lovely, fresh apple juice. The press itself was a particular draw for kids, with lots of enthusiastic chopping and pressing. And we also had a number of people who came forward wanting to borrow it for their own use or for more localised events – anyone else who is interested in doing so should make contact.
Meanwhile, there were plenty of other activities in the High Street as the independent retailers within the Hythe Town Team had used the apple press day to build a wider Harvest Day around it, so there were stalls, music, a mini funfair and face-painting.
Although not the huge bumper crop of last year, there were still plenty of apples to keep us busy for the day. A big thank you as always to our good friend, Nigel, for his supply of apples from his forest garden. And thank you as well to the main organisers, George and Julie, plus Sue and Chris, Moira and Lesley – it was a great success but needs a lot of planning and then help on the day.
